Thayerville Water System

Last week contractors were busy on Mountainside digging up property to lay new public water lines from the street connection to houses. The water system was turned on early in the week and all the new fire hydrants are functioning. This is particularly welcome in the Mountainside neighborhood where a number of homeowners have had well water problems.

It looks like the last piece of the Thayerville System is being completed with the line being installed for Laurel Brook Condominiums under Rt. 219.

Please note, if you want to keep your well it has to be separated from the domestic water supply and may only be used for non-potable purposes such was lawn irrigation, car washing, etc.  If it is not converted to these purposes it may be considered abandoned and you may be required to fill the well housing.  Check with County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) for requirements.

A further note, DPU requires that you pay the $2,000 connection fee before they will install your meter.  Be sure to plan the timing so your contractor can hook up the meter at the same time they are laying your line.
